Our Curriculum

The Overview

Our curriculum is designed to equip our children with the skills required to prepare them for the changing world. This will take place through a forum of exploration and discovery and will promote a thirst for learning, a respect for hard work and a celebration of their own and others' successes.

The curriculum we offer our children is varied, rich and relevant.   It consists of all the learning activities, experiences, and interactions which promote our school values, meets the requirements of National Curriculum and also includes what we believe is important for our children’s all round development. We have updated our curriculum to reflect the content and challenge of the new National Curriculum and our staff have received training in the key areas of curriculum change.

The National Curriculum in England sets out the knowledge and skills to be taught in all state funded in schools.  It states that all state schools must offer a curriculum which is balanced and which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and society and prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

The Structure of Our Curriculum

The curriculum is divided into specific subjects and thematic approaches. Our specific subject teaching focuses on learning from clear subject content and skills and our thematic curriculum encompasses a variety of skills and content from a range of subjects. An example of this would be our "Weapons and Warriors" Year 3/4 which encompasses art, historic, scientific and design and technologies skills to name a few. Basic skills, especially writing, are deeply embedded in this aspect of our curriculum.
